From October 11 to 16, 2026, AUCA librarians attended the Manuscript Conservation and Preservation Training, organized by the National Library of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The training was led by international experts Nicholas Sarris, a specialist at the National Library of Greece, and Nil Baydar, Head of the Conservation and Archive Department at the Manuscript Institute of Turkey.

The program focused on the study, preservation, and protection of Islamic manuscripts in Central Asia. Participants learned how to assess the condition of historical documents, identify the causes of their deterioration, and apply conservation methods to paper and book bindings. Practical sessions included making and restoring traditional leather bookbindings.

The training was held as part of the international project Manuscript Conservation and Preservation Training in Libraries of Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan, implemented by the National Library of the Republic of Kazakhstan and STERNA Heritage with the support of the ALIPH Foundation (International Alliance for the Protection of Heritage).

The knowledge and skills gained will help AUCA librarians improve the preservation of rare documents and strengthen cooperation with libraries across the region.
