On August 18–19, 2026, AUCA, Maker Space hosted the Annual International Conference of the Mid-Latitude Region Network (MLRN) & Third Pole, themed "Designing Climate-Resilient Futures."
The conference brought together international researchers, climate change experts, and representatives from academia, government agencies, and international organizations working in the fields of climate resilience, water security, climate change adaptation, and sustainable development.
The event was organized by the Mid-Latitude Region Network (MLRN) and Third Pole, with support from the OJEong Resilience Institute (OJERI) and the Core Research Institute (CRI) at Korea University. AUCA served as the local host institution.
Key conference topics included:
- The impact of climate change on mountain ecosystems and water resources
- Glacier melt, land degradation, and rising climate risks
- Climate change adaptation and the development of climate-resilient territories
- Transboundary water resources and regional cooperation
- The interplay between science, public policy, and climate finance
- Mobilizing international climate finance, including the Green Climate Fund (GCF)
- The development of national and regional adaptation programs
The conference held particular significance for Kyrgyzstan, as Central Asia is one of the regions most vulnerable to climate change, and Kyrgyzstan's mountain ecosystems play a key role in shaping water resources for the entire region.
The conference also served as a platform for discussing further development of adaptation initiatives for Kyrgyzstan and Mongolia, as well as for strengthening international scientific and institutional cooperation. AUCA's role as host highlighted the university's growing contribution to advancing international dialogue on climate change, water security, and sustainable development across Central Asia.
