AUCA Team Advances Erasmus+ Partnerships and Meets UNU Leadership in Berlin

Economics and Development faculty represent AUCA at a CBHE proposal workshop, hold talks with United Nations University leadership, and study post-mining land restoration in Germany.

A delegation from the ºì´½Ö±²¥'s Economics and Development departments — Akylai Muktarbek kyzy, Altynai Toktosun, and Ulan Kasymov — visited Germany for a series of high-level meetings and workshops aimed at deepening AUCA's international research and education partnerships.
Erasmus+ CBHE Proposal Preparation Workshop
On 30 June 2026, the AUCA team took part in the Erasmus+ Capacity Building in Higher Education (CBHE) Proposal Preparation Workshop, held at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. The workshop brought together representatives from institutions across Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, and Germany to lay the groundwork for a joint project consortium.
Participants used the session to exchange institutional experience and identify shared priorities ahead of the Erasmus+ CBHE 2027 call for proposals. By the end of the workshop, the consortium partners agreed to continue jointly developing the project, marking an important step toward a future collaborative application.
Meeting with United Nations University Leadership
On 3 July 2026, the AUCA delegation met with the Rector of the United Nations University (UNU), Prof. Dr. Tshilidzi Marwala, along with members of the UNU Resource Nexus team: Prof. Dr. Edel Günther, Prof. Dr. Daniel Karthe, Dr. Alexey Alekseenko, Ms. Sonja Hahn-Tomer, Ms. Yubin Yang, and HRH Princess Dr. Abze Djigma.
During the meeting, the AUCA team shared a letter of interest in cooperation with UNU on behalf of AUCA President Prof. Dr. Timothy O'Connor, presenting it directly to Prof. Dr. Marwala as a formal step toward future institutional collaboration between the two universities.
Field Visit: Sustainable Landscape Restoration in Germany
Following the meeting, the delegation conducted a field visit focused on sustainable landscape restoration and integrated resource management. The program included briefings at the headquarters of LMBV (Lausitzer und Mitteldeutsche Bergbau-Verwaltungsgesellschaft) — the company responsible for managing former mining regions in the Lausitz and Central Germany areas — followed by a guided tour of several post-mining restoration sites.
The visit offered the AUCA team a first-hand look at how large-scale mining landscapes can be rehabilitated into sustainable, productive land, providing valuable insight for future teaching, research, and policy work at AUCA.
