Ancient Kyrgyz and Their Ties to the Saka Tribes
January 21, 2026

January 20, 2026, Professor Cholpon Turdalieva organized a special lecture about the ancient Kyrgyz within the History of Kyrgyzstan Course and CLIO Project at the General Education Program. The guest speaker, Professor Tabyldy Akerov shared his new books and research about the ancient history of the Kyrgyz people. He presented his hypothesis that the Enisey Kyrgyz share deep biological and cultural ties with the ancient Saka tribes. Akerov argued that Kyrgyz history is much older than many believe, tracing their roots back to the Iron Age. This lecture helped students understand how ancient traditions and tribal connections shaped the Kyrgyz identity we know today.
